Blizzard … Paying Some OT

Ok, bad weekend for World of Warcraft (well … for some of you, MUAHAHA). Latest update via Minion Fangtooth:

While we have kept you updated in regards to the realms being down and given ETAs on their return, we’d also like to give you an explanation of what happened today and why the realms were down for a few hours this morning.

There was a hardware issue on an important part of the realm setup. We endeavored to keep as many realms up and running as we could while going on-site to fix the problem, but unfortunately other issues cropped up as a result that ended up requiring downtime for these realms. We fixed the problem at the data center and, after testing the hardware fix and resolving the other problems that had brought them down, made the affected realms live once more. Unfortunately, certain realms had to be brought down again; at this time we’re working on the remaining issues surrounding these realms and hope to have them up as soon as possible.

Emergency maintenance is never something we want to do, but unfortunately there are times when it proves necessary. We sincerely apologize for the interruption in your play this weekend.

UPDATE: The following realms are down at this time:
Blackrock
Deathwing
Dethecus
Doomhammer
Frostwolf
Gorgonnash
Hyjal
Kel’Thuzad
Kil’Jaeden
Kilrogg
Lightbringer
Silver Hand
Uther

UPDATE – 19:45

I do not have any new information for you at this time. The team is still hard at work narrowing down the issue and coming up with a solution. While we still do not have an ETA we do hope to have the realms back online soon.

UPDATE – 20:10

There is still no ETA on when the realms will be back up and running. I was informed that we do have people onsite at the data center and we are going to be working around the clock until these issues are resolved. We hope to have this fixed as soon as possible.

UPDATE 21:15

We still do not have an ETA for you on when the realms will be playable again. I can assure you that we want to get this fixed as much as you do and we are not going to stop until we have a solution.

While this is bad … very, very bad … this is how communication should work. People are there. They’re trying everything. It’s not like the server dudes are out surfing right now. They are on site and still working to fix this.

If I played on those servers, this would say to me, “hell if we know, go find something else to do.”

Maybe I’m getting too old, but I think that’s all we can expect, communication-wise, when shit happens.
