A goblin as redeemer. Frightening thought.

This statue is on a small island, Janeiro’s Point, off the coast of Booty Bay in World of Warcraft’s Stranglethorn Vale. With a subscriber base of 6 million-ish, in a popular questing zone for the mid levels, I wonder if this statue sees more tourists than Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer. I also wonder if Blizzard ever got an indignant email(s) from an offended Christian(s). I would not doubt it; people like to sweat the small stuff.

Enjoy your Easter weekend, or your Passover celebration. And if you’re Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Atheist, Agnostic or et al, you guys get to play ALL weekend if you want. (Lucky bastards.)

  1. It’s a good thing they didn’t put a Goblin posed an Mohammed. I could only imagine the riots and death caused by WoW.

  2. Trivia: it was originally a human male statue. Changed in late alpha or early closed beta (I can’t recall exactly, but I remember being amused by the change).
