Posers

Here’s a Warcraft forum thread I really wish I hadn’t looked at: “Ever Seen Another Character W/ Your Name?” With the cross-server battlegrounds, I had known this was a possibility and had wondered how freaky that would be, to round a corner and run ker-smack into your opposite-faction self.

Depending on how freaked the other guy was, I’d probably waste precious stealthing time thinking “what in the hell is this????” and griping about posers in Ventrilo.

THEN, I read Reply #10 which suggested people do a character search on WarcraftRealms for their names. SONUVA … there’s 12 other level 60s with my main’s character name. A paladin! And, an even larger shame, a night elf hunter!

Ok that was bad, but this is worse: Raster did a search on his name and found a level 60 horde on our old server (our guild transferred away from that server to flee the lag) that was guilded with our former arch PVP rivals. (There was much cursing.)

Fucking posers. We carefully craft our game names and build multi-year, multi-game reputations, for better or worse, and they skate in and probably do all manner of stupid shit: stand in Rain of Fire, go toe to toe with a cleaving mob, taking a Locust Swarm in the face … ARE THEY EVEN VANISHING ON VAEL??

And one last thing, who’s the joker that made a character Fotonrogue on Kul Tiras???

To Ding or Not to Ding

Feran level 13 paladin of the Warcraft realm, Scilla, doesn’t care if you ding, he just wants you to do it quietly. Quoting from the forum thread, “People who say ‘Ding'”: “… I understand that saying “ding” has been passed down from previous MMORPG’s. But really, do people crave that much attention that they have to let the whole world know every time they level. I’m sorry but the fact that you leveled is nothing special, it’s happening to everyone. …” Ya, ya, low levels shouting “Ding!” in a public channel is stupid, but I’m more inclined to agree with Reply #11 by Ravenhurst (level 60 hunter of Shattered Hand): “Ding is a goddamn tradition. If you don’t like it then get the hell out of my genre before you get trained by Fansy.” Tradition! Don’t mess with it, noob! And with the level cap rising to 70 in a few months, there’s gonna be a whole lot of dinging going on. (Archive of WoW Forum – People who say Ding, page 1)

Screenshot Day!

A few screenshots I’d collected lately of players having fun (sometimes at the expense of others):

The ingame gold sellers/power level services have moved to fancy textual messages to hustle their shit.

Hustling for Work

Well, it would have been fancy if he could have tested his macro first.

Here’s one of my guildmates. His fun had come to an end.

The Friend Zone

Bastard still hasn’t told us the story behind that mistell.

I told you a few weeks ago that my guild had split the membership into two ranks: one for the high-attendance raiders, the other for the lower-attendance raiders. (Link) One of the officers proposed adding a third rank.

Never Count on Me

Bah! If only we had the nerve to follow through on that. I don’t know about other guilds, but mine is losing its edge with the expansion just around the corner. There’s two camps of raiders. One is “the expansion will make our gear worthless, why bother farming it anymore!” and the other is the “umm, you will need SOME gear in the expansion to start off, you twits!”

I’m on the fence. I’ve got my purplez, but I’ll help others with their purplez just cuz what the hell else is there to do besides hide in the beta?

And finally, as you can see below, I’m still winning friends and influencing people in the PVP battlegrounds.

More Battleground Fun!!

I am REALLY surprised I didn’t get reported for that. Not that I cared.
