Pesky Decimal Points

Here’s a fun World of Warcraft miscalculation: the European servers passed out netherdrakes and Gladiator titles to arena team members without regard to rank or activity. Good luck tracking down that bug, the anecdotal evidence is all over the place on who got free stuffs and why. (Some Euro server threads if you’re into math mysteries: The 0.5% braket for Gladiator became 50%, Season end – Rewards and Ranks totally messed, and, Why did i and many others get a Drake + gladiator?)

Related? Rolling Restarts 6/21/07:

We will be issuing rolling restarts at 5:00 a.m. PDT for all realms to implement a fix for Arena points. We anticipate each realm to be down for approximately 15 minutes once their restart begins.

Man. I never get to enjoy fun bugs. I only get the crap where I accidentally sell off rare, legendary class items then get disco’d from the game, roasting my buyback log. True story — still pissed about that one.

  1. Looks like Michael Bolton from Office Space made the program to check the percentages. Damn decimal points.

  2. Man, as a programming I kind of sympathize with these guys but christ, is it just me or do the NEVER get it right on the first try? You’d think with the kind of money Blizz can throw at developers they would be able to hire some star talent that could at least get one patch in 2 1/2 years right. I guess not.

  3. Guild mate of mine got two in the post, was quite amusing … more so by the fact he couldn’t use them because he lacked the skill.

    Irony at its best.
